Giving to Maine Equal Justice through your workplace is an easy and efficient way to support our work to increase economic security, opportunity, and equity for all Maine people. Maine Equal Justice is a member of MaineShare, a community of more than 40 statewide nonprofit organizations working every day to make Maine a better place to live, work, and play. Through MaineShare, you can pledge a small amount to be automatically deducted from each paycheck.

You may also choose to designate your gift to Maine Equal Justice through the Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal (MSECCA), the Combined Federal Campaign, and your local United Way.

Many employers will match your gift to Maine Equal Justice. If your employer has a matching gift program, just enclose their matching gifts form with your donation. We’ll do the rest.

Maine’s legal community can support the Campaign for Justice, a special effort to support legal aid organizations in Maine.

Upon turning age 70-1/2, one must begin withdrawing funds from certain retirement accounts according to IRS rules. Funds withdrawn from some types of retirement accounts are subject to state and federal income tax. Failure to withdraw the required amount can result in a 50 percent penalty on the funds not withdrawn.

The “IRA Charitable Rollover” (aka Qualified Charitable Distribution) allows a person age 70-1/2 or older to withdraw up to $100,000 from his or her retirement accounts and donate it to a nonprofit organization without incurring any income tax on the funds withdrawn.

Another option is to withdraw funds from the retirement account, pay the tax, and contribute the remaining funds to charity. This arrangement may result in a smaller gift to charity but may allow the donor to take a charitable income tax deduction.

Maine Equal Justice welcomes contributions from your Donor Advised Fund, established at Fidelity Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Maine Community Foundation, or others.

Leave a financial legacy for future generations. By including a bequest to Maine Equal Justice in your will, you help to ensure our work on behalf of people with low-income will continue.

“I devise and bequeath to Maine Equal Justice, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 126 Sewall Street, Augusta, Maine, 04330, the sum of $_______(or, _______% of my estate) to be used to support the charitable activities of Maine Equal Justice.”

A residuary bequest:
“I devise and bequeath to Maine Equal Justice, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 126 Sewall Street, Augusta, ME 04330, all (or specify _______%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used to support the charitable activities of Maine Equal Justice.”
